Update to the latest Sonos app using the S1 Controller

Sonos products that have been set up with the Sonos S1 Controller app are running the older S1 version of Sonos OS. If your products are compatible with the newest version of Sonos OS, you can update them in order to use the latest version of the Sonos app. Follow the steps below to check your system for compatibility and start the update process.

Before you start

  • Our Sonos app compatibility article lists all of the Sonos products that are compatible with the latest Sonos app. Your app will check to make sure all of your products are compatible before starting the update.
  • If you have products that are only compatible with the Sonos S1 Controller app and you’d like to keep your system as-is, you can. You can continue using the Sonos S1 Controller app and it will continue working with your existing products, music services, and voice services.

Update your system using Compatibility Check

  1. Open the Sonos S1 Controller app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the Settings tab, select System > System Tools > System Compatibility Check.
  3. Follow the steps in the app to check your Sonos products for compatibility with the latest Sonos app and start the update process.

If you downloaded the latest Sonos app before running the System Compatibility check, you may see your compatible products show up as “Incompatible.” You can fix this in the Sonos app by going to Settings > Manage > System Updates > Check for Updates. This will update them to the newest firmware.
