Control your Sonos system with AI using Sonos 27mcp
Sonos 27mcp is a connector that allows AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to connect to and control your Sonos system using natural language. Any Large Language Model (LLM) client supporting MCP can connect once you've authorized it.

Set up Sonos 27mcp
Sonos 27mcp supports a wide range of LLM clients. Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT) offer it as a built-in connector or plugin.
Any other AI assistant that supports MCP can register Sonos 27mcp as an HTTP MCP server.
Set up in Claude:
- Navigate to Settings > Connectors. Search for Sonos or find it in the list of connectors, and select Connect.
- A browser window will open requesting permission to allow Sonos Cloud MCP Anthropic to control the Sonos system. Review the list and select Okay.
- On the next screen that appears, enter the credentials for the Sonos system and select Sign In.
- The next screen details the permissions that Claude is requesting; select Okay.
- Return to Claude and open Settings > Connectors again. Sonos MCP should now show a checkmark under Status, indicating a successful connection.
- Start a new chat to begin performing commands.
Set up in ChatGPT:
- Open Settings > Plugins. Browse or search Public plugins, and select Sonos. On the individual plugin page, select Install plugin.
- In the browser window that opens, a consent screen will display requesting access for ChatGPT to control the Sonos system. Review the details and select Okay.
- On the next screen, select Continue and then sign in to the Sonos account.
- The next screen details the permissions that ChatGPT is requesting, select Okay.
- Start a new chat, and type Sonos in the composer (or choose it from the Plugins menu) to begin performing commands.
Set up using other AI Models:
Register the Sonos MCP server by using this URL: https://mcp.ws.sonos.com/mcp
Follow your AI assistant's own registration method. This usually entails copying and pasting the above URL into the prompt window and granting the necessary permissions when asked.

Troubleshooting
If commands from your AI assistant aren't controlling your Sonos products, test the same action on play.sonos.com. If you're giving multiple or complex commands, simplify and test one action at a time.
- If the action fails in the app: Check if the corresponding operation works on play.sonos.com - if not, the problem is likely not specific to Sonos 27mcp. If you need help, contact Sonos Support.
- If the action works in the app but fails via the AI assistant: The issue is on the AI assistant's side, not with Sonos. Refer to your AI assistant's settings.
