Listen to wired audio on Sonos headphones
You can connect Sonos Ace and Sonos Ace Ultra to an external audio source using one of the included USB-C cables.
Sonos Ace and Sonos Ace Ultra's USB-C port allows line-in audio from both digital and analog sources. Use the USB-C cable to listen to wired audio from a USB-C device like a mobile phone or laptop. The USB-C to 3.5 mm aux cable lets you connect your Sonos headphones to analog audio sources such as in-flight entertainment or a laptop’s headphone port.
Cable requirements
Sonos Ace and Sonos Ace Ultra supports the use of both its included USB-C cables for wired audio. Third-party USB-C to 3.5 mm cables are not compatible with Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra.
Additional cables are available in the Sonos shop:
- For USB-C connections: Sonos Ace Charging Cable
- For 3.5 mm connections: Sonos Ace Aux Cable
Connect Sonos headphones to your wired audio source
Using either of the included cables, connect Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra to your external audio source. Your headphones will automatically start playing audio that it’s receiving through the USB-C port.
When Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra is connected to a wired analog audio source, its status light changes to solid white.
Note that Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra’s Bluetooth functionality is disabled when it’s connected to a wired audio source. This means that you can’t adjust your Sonos headphone’s settings in the Sonos app while a wired audio source is in use. To access your Sonos headphone’s settings in the app, disconnect the USB-C cable from your headphones, then wait for it to reconnect to your mobile device.
Low volume when listening to analog audio
When Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra is connected to an analog audio source using the USB-C to 3.5 mm cable, you may need to raise the volume levels of both the Sonos headphones and your audio source if your audio is too quiet.
Raise the volume on your analog audio source first, then use the Content Key to raise the volume of your Sonos headphones.
If you’re connected to a computer or mobile device, you may also need to raise the volume in the specific apps that are playing audio.
