Imported playlists missing from the Sonos music library

Sonos imports your playlists from playlist files in your shared music folder. If some or all of your Imported Playlists are missing, it means Sonos wasn’t able to find or read your playlist files. The suggestions below will help you find and add your missing playlists.

Add your computer’s music folder

Popular music software like Apple’s Music app and Windows Media Player save their playlists in your computer’s default music folder. Check to make sure the My Music folder has been added to Sonos by following the steps in our article on adding your music library.

If your playlists are still missing after adding your music folder, it’s possible that your playlist files are stored in another folder on your computer. Find out where your playlist files are stored, then add that music folder to your library so Sonos can index the right files.

Check the playlist’s file format

Sonos can import playlists from the Music app on macOS as well as the iTunes app on macOS and Windows by reading the app’s music library XML file. Additionally, Sonos supports M3U, WPL and PLS playlist files created with software like WinAmp and Windows Media Player.

If your playlist is saved in another format, Sonos cannot import it into your music library.

Reduce large playlists

Sonos can index a maximum of 1,000 playlists, with up to 40,000 songs total within all of your imported playlists. If you have exceeded this limit, some of your playlists or songs will not be visible in the Imported Playlists section of your music library.

If some of your playlists contain a large number of tracks (for example, a playlist containing your entire music collection), reorganize or delete these playlists and then update your music library index.
