TV audio and video are out of sync

This article provides steps to take if the audio coming from your Sonos home theater product is out of sync with the video.

Audio is behind the video

Reboot your TV and source device

Start by rebooting your TV and any external source device you may be using like a game console, cable box, or DVD/Blu-ray player.

Disable extra audio processing on your TV and source device

A common cause of this issue is an audio setting either on the TV or an external source device that is processing the audio before it gets to Sonos, causing it to be delayed. Check the audio output settings on your TV and any external source device, or contact the manufacturer for assistance in disabling these features.

Adjust the audio format on your TV and source device

Some TVs and external source devices use additional processing when playing surround sound audio, which can delay the audio. Change the audio format of your TV or source device to Stereo (or PCM) to remove this delay. Note that this will disable surround sound audio.

Audio is ahead of the video

Use the TV Dialog Sync setting in the Sonos app to delay the audio:

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the  Settings tab, tap System.
  3. Tap the home theater product you want to adjust.
  4. Under the Home Theater section, tap TV Dialog Sync.
  5. Move the slider to the right to delay the audio until it is in sync with the video.
