Set up a Google Assistant device to control Sonos
This article will help you set up a Google Assistant-enabled device, like a Google Home or Google Home Mini, to control Sonos. Once set up, you can use the Google Assistant to play content to Sonos, skip songs, pause playback, adjust the volume, and more.

Important Note
- As of September 2026, Google Assistant is no longer able to be added from an Android device due to the removal of the service from the platform.
- Existing Google Assistant integrations with Sonos will continue to operate if they had previously been added using an Android device.
- If an existing Google Assistant setup is removed from Sonos, an iOS device will be required to add the Assistant again.
Add the Google Assistant to Sonos

Get started
Open the Sonos app for iOS and navigate to your voice assistant settings to add the Google Assistant.
- Sonos app: Go to the Settings menu and select General Settings. Select Voice Assistants, then choose Add a voice assistant.
- Sonos S1 Controller app: From the Settings tab, select Services & Voice, then choose Add a Service.
When prompted, select Google Assistant from the list.

Sign in to your Sonos account
The Google Assistant app will prompt you to sign in to your Sonos account. If you’ve forgotten your password for your Sonos account, you can reset it here: Reset your Sonos password.

Add content services and choose a default
To play music to Sonos using the Google Assistant, you’ll need to add the same content service account to both the Google Assistant and Sonos.
In the Google Assistant app, check which music services you’ve added by selecting your profile icon at the top right, then choosing Music. You can also set your default service from this menu.

Use the Google Assistant with your Sonos speaker
After the Google Assistant has been set up, you’ll be given some sample commands to test with Sonos to make sure it’s working properly. You can also select a default speaker so content always plays in a specific room without saying the room name in the command.

Supported content services
To see available content services, open the Assistant app for iOS, select your profile icon to get to your account page, and then select Music. Available services are listed under More Music Services. Music service availability will vary by region.
In order to use your selected content service with your Google Assistant on Sonos, you must also add it to your Sonos app. You can ask your Google Assistant to play content from iHeartRadio, TIDAL, and TuneIn Radio on Sonos if they’re available in your region, but they can’t be directly added to your Google Assistant app.
