Check your Sonos home theater audio format

This article will show you how to check which audio format your Sonos home theater product is receiving from your TV. For a list of supported formats, see our article on supported home theater audio formats.



Sonos app



iOS or Android

  1. Open the System view by selecting your system’s name at the top of the screen.
  2. Select your home theater speaker to bring up the Now Playing screen.
  3. The audio format is displayed as a badge next to “TV Audio.”

The audio format is also listed in Settings > Manage > About My System under your home theater product next to Audio In.


Web app

  1. Open the Sonos Web app.
  2. Select your home theater speaker from the list on the right side of the window.
  3. The audio format is displayed on the Now Playing bar at the bottom of the window, next to “TV Audio.”


Sonos S1 Controller app



iOS or Android

  1. From the Settings tab, select System > About My System.
  2. The audio format is listed under your home theater product next to Audio In.

macOS or Windows

  1. In macOS, select Sonos S1 Controller in the menu bar. In Windows, select Help at the top of the window.
  2. Choose About My Sonos System.
  3. The audio format is listed under your home theater product next to Audio In.
