Legacy Product Update
At Sonos, we're committed to providing you with the best listening experience and ensuring your products continue to work seamlessly for years to come. We're rolling out important software updates designed to enhance performance and ensure long-term support for your Sonos system.
We're implementing a new software management strategy that allows us to deliver new features and innovations to our modern Sonos players while continuing to support our older S2, "legacy" devices with essential updates.
What to expect:
This change will not impact your listening experience. However, starting around August 5, 2025, if you have a mix of older and newer Sonos devices, you might see different software version numbers for them in the Sonos app. This is normal and does not impact how they work together. You can still group them, play music, and manage everything from the same Sonos app, just as you do today. You will not need a different app.
Products affected:
This applies to some of our earliest S2-compatible products. These devices have less than or equal to 256 MB of RAM, no voice capability, no Bluetooth and are no longer in production. They include:
- Boost
- Connect
- Connect:Amp
- Play:1
- Play:3
- Play:5 (Gen 2)
- Playbar
- Playbase
- Sub (Gen 1)
- Sub (Gen 2)
- SYMFONISK Bookshelf (Gen 1)
- SYMFONISK Table lamp (Gen 1)
We will continue to support legacy players with enhancements that prioritize stability. We are committed to monitoring their performance to ensure they continue to deliver the quality you expect.
Why This Change Matters to You:
This update allows us to keep your legacy devices stable and secure for years to come. We know your Sonos system is a valued part of your home, and we are dedicated to the longevity of nearly every Sonos product ever created, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and reducing electronic waste.
