Set up a zone for multiple Sonos products

You can easily group and ungroup your Sonos products at any time using your Sonos app. However, if you’d like to create a semi-permanent group of Sonos products, you can create a zone.

A zone consists of 2-16 Sonos products and appears in your System view as a single listing. This listing will control all Sonos products in the zone under a single name (e.g. “Downstairs”) with unified volume control, EQ settings, and more.

Zones can be grouped with other Sonos products in your system, and multiple zones can be part of a group.



Supported products

You can create a zone using the following products:

  • Era 100
  • Era 100 Pro
  • Era 300
  • Five
  • One (Gen 1)
  • One (Gen 2)
  • One SL


Setting up a zone

To set up a new zone, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. Go to the Settings menu.
  3. Under Your System, select one of your products that supports zones.
  4. Select Set Up Zone.
  5. Follow the steps to choose the products for your zone and give it a name.

To ensure the best experience, we recommend a wired internet connection into each speaker. If a wireless connection is needed, we recommend not exceeding six (6) WiFi connected devices per zone.



Changing zone settings

You can change the settings for your zones the same way you change settings for individual Sonos products. In the Settings menu, select the name of your zone under Your System.

In the zone settings page, you can change the name of your zone, view the status and info for individual products, and adjust volume and EQ settings.

To identify individual products within the zone, select the product and use the chime button to play an audible chime from the selected product.

You can also select Edit Zone to add or remove Sonos products from the zone, or select Separate Zone to remove the zone and separate all products within it.



Zone limitations

  • Zones can only consist of individual Sonos products. Stereo paired speakers and home theater configurations must be separated before their products can be added to a zone.
  • Subs cannot be added to a zone. To add a Sonos product to a zone, please remove any connected Subs first.
  • Trueplay tuning and spatial audio playback are not available from products in a zone.
