Set up a separate Sonos S1 system

If you have Sonos products that are only compatible with the S1 Controller app and you’d like to update your other products to the latest Sonos software, you can set up the S1-specific products in a separate Sonos system.

Before you start

Use the removal tool to remove any products that are only compatible with the S1 Controller app from your system and reset them back to factory defaults.

iOS or Android

  1. Open the Sonos S1 Controller app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the  Settings tab, select App Preferences.
  3. Select Reset App.
  4. Close and reopen the app.
  5. Choose Set up a new Sonos system.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up each of your previously-removed Sonos products.

Note that you’ll need to set preferences and add music services again once your products have been set up again. If you see a banner saying you can update to S2, it can be safely dismissed.
