Sonos Voice Control requests not working

This article provides steps to fix issues with Sonos Voice Control not following commands, not responding, or responding with “Sorry, I don’t understand.”

Check that Sonos Voice Control is set up

Make sure that Sonos Voice Control is set up on the speaker you are currently using:

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. Go to the Settings menu.
  3. Select the Manage button next to My System.
  4. Select Voice Assistants, then select Sonos Voice Control to see where the assistant is currently in use.
  5. If Sonos Voice Control is not listed or it is set up on a different product than the one you are using, see our article on setting up Sonos Voice Control.

Check the microphone

If your voice-enabled Sonos speaker has a physical microphone switch, make sure it’s switched on.

Additionally, check the status light above the microphone button or voice service button. If the light is off, tap the button to re-enable the microphone or the voice service, then try the command again.

Reboot your Sonos product

Reboot the affected Sonos product by following the steps in this article.

Relocate your Sonos product

Start by moving your voice-enabled product closer to you while issuing a command. If your commands start working, then relocate your voice-enabled Sonos product away from walls, other speakers, and sources of background noise to make sure that Sonos Voice Control can hear you.

Check language and region availability

Sonos Voice Control currently supports US English and French. While Sonos Voice Control is available worldwide, some requests made in regions outside of the US and France may not work as expected.

Remove and re-add Sonos Voice Control

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. Go to the Settings menu.
  3. Select the Manage button next to your system.
  4. Select Voice Assistants, then select Sonos Voice Control.
  5. Select the room that’s experiencing the issue with Sonos Voice Control, then select Remove Sonos Voice Control.
  6. Once removed, select Add to another product, then follow the in-app instructions to re-add Sonos Voice Control to your Sonos product.
