Connection Types

Description

Unknown

May appear in an unexpected network state. For additional questions, please contact Sonos Support.

SonosNet (Ethernet)

Sonos is using SonosNet with an Ethernet cable connected.

Unplugging the Ethernet cable from this product may cause a disruption in connectivity for the system and product also transition the household out of SonosNet mode.

SonosNet (wireless)

Sonos product is using SonosNet mode and connected to the network wirelessly via another SonosNet device (single wired Sonos product or a Boost).

This product relies on one or more of the products (or Boost) reporting ‘Ethernet, SonosNet’ or 'Ethernet, Home Theater (ethernet)' for connectivity.

Ethernet

An Ethernet cable is connected directly to this product, and does not depend on WiFi or SonosNet.

Home Theater soundbars may still provide connectivity to surrounds via WiFi while in this mode.

Ethernet (WiFi disabled)

Ethernet cable connected, but WiFi is disabled by user in the Sonos app.

Home Theater soundbars cannot provide connectivity to surrounds via WiFi while in this mode.

WiFi

Connected via WiFi access point (Station Mode). Sonos portable products generally display this connection type.

Home Theater (wireless)

SonosNet-capable home theater surround bonded to a SonosNet-capable home theater soundbar, wirelessly.

Ethernet-wiring a product in this mode will switch the household to SonosNet mode if SonosNet is not already active (and if SonosNet is not disabled).

Home Theater (Ethernet)

SonosNet-capable home theater surround with an Ethernet cable connected, and is bonded to a SonosNet-capable home theater soundbar with SonosNet enabled in the household.

Unplugging the Ethernet cable from this product may cause a disruption in connectivity for the system and may also transition the household out of SonosNet mode.

Home Theater 2.0

Non-SonosNet capable wireless surround (e.g. Era 300) or SonosNet-capable surround bonded to non-SonosNet soundbar (e.g. Arc Ultra). Read our article Choose between a wireless and wired Sonos setup for a list of products that don't support SonosNet.

Ethernet-wiring these products (via Sonos combo adapter) requires that the home theater soundbar is also Ethernet-wired.

Check your product’s Wireless Mode in the S1 Controller app

The About My System screen shows all the Sonos products in your household and the Wireless Mode (WM) that they are in. Look for the row under each product that says WM.
