Issues during wireless setup

This article will help you resolve issues that may occur when connecting Sonos to your Wi-Fi network. If you have a new router or changed your Wi-Fi password, see our article on connecting Sonos to a new router or Wi-Fi network.

If you are attempting to remove a Sonos Bridge from your system and are unable to connect your system to Wi-Fi, start with the suggestions below. If you continue to experience issues, you may need to keep one of your other Sonos products wired to your router. For more information, see our article on removing a Bridge from your system.

Incorrect Wi-Fi password

Double check the password you entered by tapping Show to the right of the password field. If you continue to receive this message, check your router for a sticker that includes your network password. Contact your Internet service provider or router manufacturer for help finding or resetting your Wi-Fi password.

If you are setting up a new Sonos system and can’t locate the correct Wi-Fi password, tap Alternate setup to proceed with a wired setup if your product has an Ethernet port.

If your speaker does not have an Ethernet port or you are unable to permanently wire your speaker, you will have to locate or reset your Wi-Fi password to complete the wireless setup.

Incorrect Wi-Fi network

Make sure the correct Wi-Fi network is selected when entering your password. Tap Use another network if needed and try connecting again.

Incompatible Wi-Fi network

Certain network types do not support a wireless setup. If you are attempting to set up Sonos on a network that fits one or more of the following criteria, you will need to go through a wired setup instead.

  • Enterprise access points configured to require certificates or some other form of enterprise authentication.
  • Guest networks or Mobile Hotspots.
  • Networks that use a portal page to log in.
  • Networks with wireless range extenders.

In addition, some Sonos products cannot connect to a router that only provides 5GHz Wi-Fi. You can find more information on supported Wi-Fi modes in our system requirements article.

If you’ve tried all the steps above and you’re still unable to connect Sonos to your Wi-Fi, try rebooting your router.
