Error when updating Sonos app for macOS

This article provides steps to resolve update errors that can occur when updating the Sonos app for macOS.


“An unexpected error occurred. Please try again”

If you see this error, uninstall the Sonos app by opening the app and clicking Sonos > Uninstall. Then, download and reinstall the Sonos app.


“Could not install Sonos” or incorrect password error

macOS will prompt you to enter your username and password for your Mac in order to update the Sonos app. This error occurs if you do not enter a password, the password you entered is incorrect, or your user account does not have admin privileges. Make sure to use the administrator password for your Mac, and not your Sonos account password.

To complete the update, ensure you have the correct user password and admin privileges when updating the Sonos app.


The Sonos app repeatedly prompts you to update

This error occurs if you have copied the Sonos app to another folder on your computer, such as your desktop.

To resolve this error, uninstall all instances of the Sonos app except the one in your Applications folder. To uninstall, drag the app icon to the Trash or right click the Sonos app icon and click Move to Trash. Then open the Sonos app in the Applications folder and start the update if prompted.
