Remove Sonos products that are not compatible with S2

In order to update your Sonos system to Sonos S2, you must first remove any Sonos products that are not compatible with S2 from the system. You can do this with the product removal tool in the Sonos app.

The product removal tool will reset these products back to factory default settings and erase all user data including favorites, playlists, music service accounts, and settings.

You can still use the Sonos products you removed, but they need to be set up again separately using the Sonos S1 Controller app. You can learn how to do this in our article on setting up a separate Sonos S1 system.

Remove products using the removal tool

  1. Open the Sonos S1 Controller app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the Settings tab, tap System.
  3. Tap System Tools, then tap Remove Products.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to select and remove your incompatible products.

If Remove Products is grayed out or missing, you can remove any products that are not compatible with S2 by resetting them to their factory settings. You can check which products are not compatible with S2 by checking our S2 compatibility article.

Once your S2 incompatible products have been removed, you can update your Sonos system to S2. The new Sonos S2 app will become your primary Sonos app.
