Notice regarding the “On this device” feature for Android

Starting May 23rd, 2023, we’re removing the ability to play audio files directly to Sonos using the “On this device” menu in the Sonos app for Android. We recommend using one of the methods described in this article to make sure you can still play any files stored on your Android device.



Keep your music stored on your Android device

You can use either Line-In or Bluetooth to play music files from your Android device to your Sonos products. Line-In uses a hardwired connection to your Sonos product, while Bluetooth allows you to stream the music to your Sonos product wirelessly.

Move your music to a streaming service or NAS drive


Streaming services

Some services allow you to upload and stream your music online. We support the following services that let you upload your own music. Note that some of these services require a premium subscription to work with Sonos.

Once you’ve uploaded your music to one of these services, the tracks will be accessible through Sonos once you’ve added the service using the Sonos app. See our article on adding music services to get started with using one of the services listed above.


NAS drive

If you have a network-attached storage (NAS) drive on your network, you can move or copy your tracks to the NAS and share them with your Sonos system. Once the NAS music share is set up, you can browse and play that music from the Sonos app on your Android device. See our article on using a NAS drive with Sonos to get started.
