Control Sonos with Sonos 27voice

Sonos 27voice is a next-generation voice assistant purpose built for music and your Sonos system. It understands natural language, so you can speak to it the same way you’d speak to a person.

By adding Sonos 27voice to a voice-enabled Sonos product, you can use voice requests to control any Sonos product in your system. This article covers how to use Sonos 27voice and the types of requests that will work with your Sonos products.

Sonos 27voice supports US-English, and will be available for Early Access Fall 2026.

Making a request with “Hey Sonos”

You can use Sonos 27voice at any time by saying the wake word, “Hey Sonos.” While Sonos is listening, the white status light on your Sonos product will glow brighter and the volume will lower if any audio is playing. A confirmation tone will play after Sonos understands your request.

Types of requests

Sonos 27voice can start music, move it around your house, group and ungroup speakers, and help manage your library on supported music services. It can also handle non-music related queries such as setting timers, getting the weather forecast, controlling supported smart home products, and answering general knowledge questions.

Example requests

  • Play the live, acoustic Nirvana album
  • Group all my speakers and find a good playlist for winding down in the evening
  • How many teaspoons are in a cup?
  • Who won the Superbowl this year?
  • What’s the name of the artist who sang “Purple Rain”?

You can find a full list of the requests you can make in our list of Sonos 27voice requests.

Natural dialogue support

Sonos 27voice can fulfill complex requests when using natural speech, as well as understanding implicit or vague requests.

Example requests

  • Play the album with a sardine tin on the cover
  • Play that Bowie album about an adventure in space
  • Who was the singer at the superbowl? Play their latest album on Hallway.
  • Play the artist Jungle on Greenhouse, and group music with the kitchen.

Additional details

  • Because Sonos 27voice requires a cloud connection, basic playback and information requests (like checking battery level) won't work on a portable Sonos product when it's off your WiFi network.
  • Some supported music services allow you to add or remove tracks from your library, like songs, and more. These requests can be found in our list of Sonos 27voice requests.
