Set up your Sonos Arc
This article will help you get started with setting up your Sonos Arc or Arc SL1. We'll also make sure you're connected properly for Dolby Atmos, and show you how to add a voice assistant. You can find more information on product features and specs on Arc's product page.
Before you start
- Download the Sonos app for iOS or Android. Your Arc needs to be set up using the Sonos app before it can play TV audio. Note that Sonos Arc is not compatible with the Sonos S1 Controller app.
- Place Arc in your desired location and connect it to power.
- Keep the included HDMI cable and optical audio adapter ready nearby. The Sonos app will guide you on which cables and ports to use when connecting your Arc to your TV.
Set up a new Sonos system with Arc
- Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
- Select Speaker or component, then create or sign in to your Sonos account.
- Select Add on the popup showing your Sonos Arc.
- Follow the steps in the app to set up your Arc and add your content services.
Add Arc to your existing system

Problems during setup?
If your Sonos Arc is having trouble connecting during setup, check our “Product not found” article for some help.
Listen to Dolby Atmos on Arc
Arc must be connected to your TV’s HDMI-ARC input to play Dolby Atmos content. If Arc is receiving an Atmos signal, we will display that within the Sonos App on both the "Now Playing" screen, and within the settings portion of our app. For more information, see our article on playing Dolby Atmos on Sonos.
Control Arc with your voice
With Sonos Voice Control, Amazon Alexa, or the Google Assistant added to your Arc, you can use your voice to turn your TV on and off as well as adjust the TV volume. It is not possible to set up voice services on Arc SL as it does not have a microphone. You can still control Arc SL with Sonos Voice Control, Amazon Alexa, or the Google Assistant if you have another voice-enabled Sonos product.
To use these commands, Arc must be connected to your TV’s HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC input and your TV needs to have HDMI-CEC enabled. Voice commands for turning the TV on and off will not work if Arc is connected via optical adapter.
Arc can also be linked to Alexa-enabled video streaming devices such as Fire TV. Learn more in our article about setting up the Fire TV with Sonos Arc.
1Arc SL is sold exclusively at Costco.
