Using the product removal tool in the Sonos S1 Controller app

If you’d like to update your S1 Sonos system to the latest Sonos software version, you first need to remove any products from your system that are only compatible with S1. You can do this by using the product removal tool in the S1 Controller app.

The product removal tool will reset these products back to factory default settings and erase all user data including favorites, playlists, music service accounts, and settings.

You can still use the Sonos products you removed, but they need to be set up again separately using the Sonos S1 Controller app after updating. You can learn how to do this in our article on setting up a separate Sonos S1 system.

Remove products using the removal tool

  1. Open the Sonos S1 Controller app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the Settings tab, select System.
  3. Select System Tools, then select Remove Products.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to select and remove your incompatible products.

If Remove Products is grayed out or missing, you can remove any products that are only compatible with S1 by resetting them to their factory settings. You can check which products are only compatible with S1 in our Sonos product compatibility article.
