Group and ungroup rooms

You can group two or more products together so they play the same content in sync. This article will show you how to group rooms, ungroup rooms, and change the volume of individual products in a group.

Using button or touch controls

You can press and hold the Play / Pause button on any Sonos product to group it together with another room (or group of rooms) that’s currently playing audio. You can press and hold the same button to remove a product from a group.

Using the Sonos app

You can choose which rooms are grouped together using the Grouping menu in the app.

• iOS or Android: Select the Grouping icon in your Now Playing bar located at the bottom of the screen.
• Web app: Select the Grouping icon next to any of your listed rooms on the right-hand side of the window.

In the Grouping menu, check or uncheck rooms to add or remove them from the group. You can also choose from your list of saved groups at the top of the list. To save your changes, select Apply.

Change the volume of grouped rooms

When two or more rooms are grouped together, you can use the Sonos app to adjust the volume of the entire group or of each individual room in that group.

To show the volume controls for all grouped rooms, select or adjust the volume slider in the Sonos app.

• On iOS or Android, the volume slider is located in the Now Playing bar at the bottom of the screen.
• In the Web app, the volume slider is at the bottom right-hand corner of the window.

You can also set the volume of individual rooms in the Grouping menu before applying any changes.

Using the Sonos S1 Controller app

On S1 systems, you can group rooms together and change the group volume using the S1 Controller apps for iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows.

Group and ungroup rooms

• iOS or Android: From the Rooms tab, select the Group button. Check or uncheck rooms to add or remove them from the group.
• macOS or Windows: From the Rooms pane on the left side of the app, select the Group button next to the selected room. Check or uncheck rooms to add or remove them from the group.

Change the volume of grouped rooms

To show the volume controls for all grouped rooms, select or adjust the volume slider in the Sonos S1 Controller app.

• On iOS or Android, the volume slider is located in the Now Playing screen.
• On macOS or Windows, the volume slider is at the top-left corner of the app.
