Update your Sonos speakers

This article provides information on how to update your Sonos system to ensure you have access to the latest features and security updates. You can read about the latest updates to Sonos in our release notes.

By default, your Sonos system is set to update automatically.

Sonos Ace has a different update process than other Sonos products. Learn how to update your Sonos Ace.

If you’re using the Sonos S1 Controller app and would like to update your Sonos system to use the latest Sonos app, you can find instructions in our S1 Controller update article.


Check for updates


Sonos app for iOS or Android

  1. Go to the Settings menu.
  2. Select Manage next to your system.
  3. Select System Updates.
  4. Select Check for Updates.

Sonos S1 Controller


iOS or Android

  1. From the Settings tab, select System.
  2. Under System Settings, select System Updates.
  3. Select Check for Updates.

macOS or Windows

From the Sonos S1 Controller menu (macOS) or Manage menu (Windows), select Check for Updates.



Scheduling updates

To schedule when you’d like your Sonos system to automatically update, you can select one of the following two-hour periods by selecting Scheduled. If audio is playing or an alarm is scheduled during this period, the update will be postponed until the next available update window.

The two-hour periods available are Morning (5:00am - 7:00am), Afternoon (12:00pm - 2:00pm), Evening (5:00pm - 7:00pm), and Overnight (2:00am - 4:00am).

If you’d prefer to check for updates manually, you can disable automatic updates in the Settings menu under Manage > System Updates > Update Automatically.
